I'm having fun seeing how genetics change through each generation and giving my children CAS makeovers once they age up. I only "cheat" if something about the game just doesn't seem right, and I focus on skill building, completing aspirations, career climbing, and needs management. In the Sims 4, I'm having fun just doing a single family legacy and trying to reach 10 generations. I wouldn't focus on needs, careers, skills, or aspirations. In the Sims 3 and 2, I'm a hardcore cheater who motherlodes and max motives the game to death, plays rotationally, and focuses more on crafting highly dramatic stories from the wacky situations that happen between families. I find that I cannot play the Sims 4 the same way I play the Sims 3 or 2. How do you usually play? Because you might have more fun playing a completely different play style. Over time, this creates a whole extended universe of characters and stories and relationships, which makes the game feel alive and special.

My favorite thing to do, though, is u/Joyful_willow suggested: have a main save where I play with aging off and rotate between households as I see fit/when I get bored.

Start with nothing and work your way up to being awesome. Rags to Riches and Perfect Sim Challenges are fun, too. I'm also adding a component where each heir lives in a different world, and while they can take their money with them, they have to build and improve their own houses over the course of their lives, rather than staying on one lot forever. It's pretty casual, not even really a "challenge" so much as a way to experience lots of different aspects of the game. I just started a "Nightmare Legacy" (a la lilsimsie), which basically means starting with very little money and then playing on short lifespan for ten generations while randomizing traits and completing different aspirations each generation.
